Coming back to Izakaya Kikufuji after years away felt like revisiting an old friend—except this friend still serves killer sashimi, tempura that crunches like a good plot twist, and grilled fish that could convert anyone to pescetarianism. I used to frequent this gem back when I was still living in Makati. A pre-pandemic ritual, like home-cooked by a japanese mom, always worth the wait. Now living in BGC, it took me years (and a craving) to return—and wow, it was like time never passed. The biggest surprise? Marilyn. Yes, the Marilyn—front-of-house legend, queen of no-nonsense warmth, and unintentional therapist. She still remembered us. Her service? As sharp as Kikufuji’s sushi knife and twice as comforting. Half the meal was the food, the other half was her. No scripts, no frills—just genuine care and humor that hits the spot. Would I go back again? Absolutely. Even if just for Marilyn. (But I’d stay for the uni.)

We were pleasantly surprised—they gave us free soup, tuna tartare, and house tea! The food is good and authentic. We tried the sashimi, California maki, curry don, gyudon, and katsudon, and everything was tasty. All that for around ₱2,000, so it’s pretty affordable for the quality. The only downside is that it can get a bit smoky inside, probably because of the grill/teppan, so ventilation could be improved, and then no available parking. Overall, great value and delicious Japanese food!

Many dishes that we want are not sold. The food is delicious. Tuna and salmon spicy are not what we expect. Sashimi is good and fresh. Beef Shabu is good too. Tempura is crispy and good. The restaurant has many seats. Staff is friendly and helpful. The price is not that expensive.

Stumbled upon this restaurant when other neighbors were full and they did not disappoint!! They have a wonderful and vast menu, and affordable choices as well. The staff could be a little bit more helpful in describing the dishes. The portions were good and filling, and the seaweed chips with spiny tuna were nice. The Salmon bowl was fresh and yum! Would come back here, totally underrated in the area.

Amazing authentic Japanese food at a price cheaper than most other restaurants. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Limited parking. The place feels old, but in a good, cozy way.

I stayed in makati for 3 days but this was my go to restaurant if i didn't want to spend too much and eat a tons. Location feels very japanese as the interior design makes you feel like you're literally in tokyo.

The place was a bit noisy when I came around 12 PM. Since I was alone, I was seated at the counter. They have a lot of food options, and I was so happy with what I ordered — the Hire Katsu for ₱325. Just look at all the side dishes that came with it! There were so many. I’ll definitely come back to try other items on the menu.

They still serve the best california special in the metro. Sad that the enoki bacon is still sold out but overall, a very homey store that serves good food. Hope they renovate soon? Hahahah
